2nd Annual Columbus, OH, VJMC Show 5/8/2010

We had a great Central Ohio VJMC crew of over 10 people show up early at 8am for setup so I was brimming with confidence that we could get it laid out quickly.  All went great until we set up our pop up tents.  First, we used some ten pound concrete edging blocks to secure them. That worked for only a short while, so Chris Lewis headed off to Home Depot for more ballast.  It was quite a spectacle seeing eight of our members dutifully holding a leg of a pop up for about a half hour until Chris was able to return.  He arrived with the 40# variety concrete blocks which would surely do the trick.  We secured each leg, walked away certain that the job was done.  In less than five minutes, however, I noticed both pop ups sideways catching wind like parachutes!  OK, so we weren’t going to do pop ups this year.

At least there was no rain, although it certainly threatened.  Despite the wind chill which was edging down to the mid 40’s, we had a wonderful display of pristine motorcycles.  We had lots of door prizes and even a grand prize of a free pizza each month for a year compliments of my friends at Flyers Pizza in Columbus.  Eric Kessler a local VJMC member recently back from a Moto Giro East race, also supplied several Gift Cards from Bravo Restaurants.  Sandy Parsons of our sponsoring dealership ASK Powersports, again graciously allowed us to take up most of their parking lot, and supplied us with logistical help and door prizes.

A great time was had by all; sharing stories, swapping tales, and freely offering advice to people that come by with questions.  Also it is always very gratifying watching guys, who know they don’t stand a chance of winning a trophy, still wanting to show off their proud possessions to a generation of people who have never seen them.
